Effects of Straw Mulching on Near-Surface Hydrological Process and Soil Loss in Slope Farmland of Red Soil

چکیده

Slope farmland is prone to soil erosion, especially in sub/tropical regions. However, our understanding of near-surface hydrology characteristics and their controlled factors red sloping remains limited. Here, we conducted simulated rainfall experiments assess the impact pattern, straw mulching, structure on hydrological processes southern China. Results showed that: (1) short duration-high intensity rain caused greater surface runoff sediment production than did long duration-low rain, whereas variation pattern subsurface flow exhibited opposite trend; (2) tillage behavior could weaken promote development flow; (3) mulching increased water infiltration rate associated (increased by 1.33~12.71 times), thus reduced (reduced 99.68~100%). These findings highlight crucial roles regulating spatial distribution rainwater suggest that can effectively reduce erosion via accelerating form slope

Effect of Slope Gradient and Soil Physical Properties on Soil Loss in Furrows of Rainfed Farms

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of slope gradient and soil physical properties (grain size distribution, bulk density, aggregate stability and permeability) on water erosion in the furrows of rainfed farms under fallow conditions. The furrows with 6 m length were installed in five rainfed farms with 6.1, 10.6, 14.8, 20.7 and 27.1% slope steepness at three replications. Resul...

Effects of Mulching Tolerant Plant Straw on Soil Surface on Growth and Cadmium Accumulation of Galinsoga parviflora

Pot and field experiments were conducted to study the effects of mulching with straw of cadmium (Cd) tolerant plants (Ranunculus sieboldii, Mazus japonicus, Clinopodium confine and Plantago asiatica) on growth and Cd accumulation of Galinsoga parviflora in Cd-contaminated soil. In the pot experiment, mulching with M. japonicus straw increased the root biomass, stem biomass, leaf biomass, shoot ...

Microbial Functional Diversity, Biomass and Activity as Affected by Soil Surface Mulching in a Semiarid Farmland

Mulching is widely used to increase crop yield in semiarid regions in northwestern China, but little is known about the effect of different mulching systems on the microbial properties of the soil, which play an important role in agroecosystemic functioning and nutrient cycling. Based on a 4-year spring maize (Zea mays L.) field experiment at Changwu Agricultural and Ecological Experimental Sta...

Effects of straw mulching on maize photosynthetic characteristics and rhizosphere soil micro-ecological environment

Straw mulching is an effective measure to improve soil properties, crop growth, and yield. To further understand the advantage mechanisms of straw mulching, a field experiment with seven straw mulching levels (0 to 18 000 kg ha-1) was conducted to study the effects of straw mulching on maize (Zea mays L.) photosynthesis and rhizosphere soil microecological environment. Results showed that maize...

Evaluation of compost and straw mulching on soil-loss characteristics in erosion plots of potatoes in Prince Edward Island, Canada

The intensive use of Prince Edward Island (PEI) farmland for potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) production draws concern because of soil physical degradation under the intense tillage and other heavy traffic associated with the mechanisation of this crop, and the resulting vulnerability of sloping fields to hydraulic erosion. Growing public consciousness and pressure in favour of sustainable agricul...
